Salesforce Launches Health Cloud To Boost Patient Engagement
today announced the Health Cloud. As its name suggests, its goal is to help healthcare providers build stronger relationships with patients.
Salesforce Health Cloud is a cloud-based patient relationship management solution that aims to give healthcare providers a clear view of their patients. The cloud stores data from electronic medical records, wearables and other platforms, which could give doctors the information they need to make smarter decisions, engage on a more personal level with patients and better manage data.
"The era of precision healthcare is upon us," said Joshua Newman, chief medical officer and general manager of Salesforce Healthcare and Life Sciences, in a statement. "Just like we use precision medicine to target more personalized treatments for cancer and other diseases, precision healthcare is enabling our customers to develop more meaningful, accurate and long-term relationships with patients.”
Connectivity Is Key
The stage is certainly set for Health Cloud. Healthcare IT is shifting toward the patient experience for the first time in history. The Affordable Healthcare Act and outcome-based reimbursements are putting pressure on healthcare providers to offer end-to-end care as they compete for patients.
Meanwhile, patient expectations are greater than ever. A younger generation more at home with technology demands more high-tech healthcare management solutions. According to the Salesforce State of the Connected Patient Report, 71 percent of Millennials want their doctors to provide mobile apps to actively manage their health. What’s more, 63 percent would be interested in proactively providing their health data from wearables to their doctors, so those physicians can monitor their well-being.
"Healthcare providers face a significant challenge. To deliver the best patient care possible, they rely on data sitting in multiple systems,” said Ross Mason, founder and vice president of product strategy for integration software company MuleSoft, in the statement. "Connectivity is the key to unlocking this data and making it useful.”
More Active Patient Care
Salesforce Health Cloud aims to offer that connectivity, shifting health systems beyond revenue cycle management and electronic health records to patient-focused relationships. Built on the Salesforce Service Cloud, the Health Cloud gives healthcare providers a clear view of patient conditions, medications, lab results and scheduled appointments.
On the patient-decision front, the Salesforce Health Cloud Today screen alerts healthcare providers to timely patient issues, from missed appointments to prescription refills. The screen lets caregivers browse tasks and act on them. At the same time, Salesforce Chatter, a social networking tool, lets administrators review conversations about patients for better collaboration among providers.
There are even private patient communities to help patients view progress toward their healthcare plans, tap into FAQs, and connect with providers in their networks. Finally, there are built-in-tools to help providers comply with HIPAA, as well as integration with major medical systems via Salesforce’s healthcare industry partners.
